Beat the Cold is an annual triathlon hosted by 1JustCity and TriFactor Triathlon Club where weekend warriors, super athletes, and fun-letes will run, bike, and skate in the frigid February weather. Since 2019, the wildest Winnipeggers have beaten the cold, so others don’t have to.

Our event is dedicated to raising funds for 1JustCity’s “Just a Warm Sleep” (JAWS) program. Since its start in 2017, JAWS has provided emergency overnight shelter during the coldest winter months. JAWS welcomes up to 30 people experiencing homelessness into its warming shelter every night between November and March. When winter temperatures drop, sleeping outside can quickly become deadly for our vulnerable neighbours. Spending a frigid night inside can save a person’s life. Guests are invited to enjoy a safe, warm sleep, meals, showers, laundry, and access to resources. Just a Warm Sleep is a barrier-free overnight shelter which operates on a harm reduction model, that welcomes guests along with their pets and shopping carts, serving adults of all ages, cultural backgrounds, religions, and gender identities. Through the housing support and eviction prevention programs, 1JustCity offers more stable housing to the unhoused in our city all year round.
